RUGBY

Craig Williamson

As the 2024/2025 rugby season approaches, Navan RFC is proud to announce the remarkable achievements of its players who have earned spots in prestigious Leinster youth training squads.

Among those recognised is Alex Carter, a standout from Navan RFC's boys u-17 squad last season, has been selected for the Leinster u-18 men's Club Summer squad.

He will be participating in the PwC men’s u-18 Clubs Interprovincial Championships.

The tournament begins on Saturday 17th August when Ulster take on Connacht at Kingspan Stadium, 4.30. The following day Leinster take on Munster at Energia Park, 3pm.

KATIE KEARNEY

Katie Kearney, a Navan u-18 Girls player, has also made significant strides by training with the extended Leinster u-18 Women's squad over the summer.

She gained valuable experience playing in a pre-season game against 'The Eagles' from the United States.

The Leinster u-18 Women's team is preparing for the 2024 PwC Women’s u-18 Interprovincial Championship, which runs from 17th August to 7th September.

Last season’s team members, including Navan RFC's Emma Brogan and Alex Connor, were presented with their championship jerseys for their outstanding contributions in the run to the Interprovincial final last season.

JACK SHORTEN

Navan RFC Men's u-20 player Jack Shorten has been awarded an exceptional opportunity to travel to Cape Town, South Africa. He will join the Western Province International Rugby Institute (WPIRI) in Stellenbosch, where he will train, play, and live with the WPIRI academy students under the guidance of top South African coaches.

This opportunity arose after Jack's impressive performance at an Elite Rugby Camp in Ashbourne RFC last month.

BACKROOM TEAM

The Navan RFC men's u-20 side is bolstering its backroom team for the upcoming season. Head coach Glen Baskett returns, supported by Darren Cherry, Bryan Russell, and new forwards coach Dara Fallon.

To further enhance the team's strength and conditioning that has been led by Ben White from 121 Fitness in Mullaghboy, former Olympian and champion boxer Darren O’Neill has also been brought on board.

CARA MARTIN & ABBEY MOYLES

Navan RFC player Cara Martin has been named by Head Coach Tania Rosser in the Leinster Senior squad that will compete in the upcoming Vodafone Women’s Interprovincial Series, while former Navan player Abby Moyles from Trim has been named in the Ulster panel for the second successive season.

Martin was part of the Navan team that achieved a League and Cup double last season and she was also named on the inaugural Irish Women's under-20 squad last year and recently competed on the Irish Universities Women's Seven's team.

Also named on the squad is former Navan RFC youths player Jade Gaffney.

Earlier this summer Martin was on duty for the Irish Universities Women's Sevens squad in France.
