Meath secure Shield in thrilling final victory over Wicklow
Meath claimed the Leinster u-16 C Camogie Shield with a stirring second-half performance to see off the challenge of Wicklow at Rathleague on Saturday.
After drawing their earlier clash 4-9 each this was a much cagier affair before Meath found an extra gear to pull clear.
Saoirse Meagher opened the scoring for Meath, but every time Meath pointed Wicklow countered to ensure parity at the break 0-4 each.
After the resumption Meath burst from the traps with Faye Govern and Genevieve Dorrigan pushing them ahead. However Wicklow settled and got back in the game with the first goal.
Meath didn't panic and when Aoife Dunne poached an opportunist goal it put Meath back in control. Dorrigan and Meagher stretched Meath's lead to 1-8 to 1-4 and some stout defending in the closing stages kept Wicklow at arms length to secure the Shield for the Royals.
Scorers: Meath - S Meagher 0-5; A Dunne 1-0; G Dorrigan 0-2; F Govern 0-1.
