Larry Clarke

Navan Road Club members send their best wishes to their good friend and cycling colleague Patsy Fitzsimons who recently celebrated his 90th birthday.

He has been a dedicated member of the club and a great example to all in a club that was founded in 1953.

Still out on his bike peddling the roads of Meath and beyond with great energy and enthusiasm.

Originally from Ardbraccan Patsy started cycling in 1955 when he took up grass track racing that was very popular in them days at sports meetings, he also did some road racing and was placed fifth in the Meath Grand Prix considered one of the top races in the country.

Later in his career he joined the Veterans and raced with great success, one of his best wins was a two day race at Batterstown in 1987.

Patsy was always a great supporter of the clubs leisure and charity events that took place.

One of his favourite spins was the annual Christmas Day novelty cycle for the local St Vincent de Paul where he would team up with his good friend the late Nicko Lynch.

Another event he gave great support to was the 24 Hour Roller Cycle that raised funds for the ARC Cancer Support Centre.

Well done Patsy - a true legend in Navan Road Club.
