Skane Valley Community Council AGM to take place this week

The Annual General meeting of Skane Valley Community Council (SVCC) will be held in the Old School, Kilmessan, on Thursday, 18th April at 8pm.

The community council was set up in 2015 with the shared objective of improving the quality of life for all people living in the Dunsany and Kilmesan areas.

It aims to do this through community-based activities and initiatives that complement the work of the many local sports and social clubs and build on the successes of vibrant local community groups.

The main business of the meeting will be to report on what SVCC has been doing over the past year, to discuss priorities for the year ahead, and to elect a new committee to carry out that work.

Amongst the priorities for the coming year is to continue to plan for the distribution of funding from the Swainstown Community Gain fund. This fund is valued at €240,000 and will be spent on projects in the Kilmessan/Dunsany within the next decade. Already, four projects in the Kilmessan/Dunsany area have been approved for funding totaling €65,000.

The committee will also be working to ensure that the growing community is provided with the resources, funding and facilities necessary to meet the needs of everyone, young and old. This includes ensuring that funding for the re-development of parish hall in Kilmessan village is secured.

The need for appropriate traffic calming measures in the area, mentioned elsewhere has also been highlighted as an area of priority.

SVCC is encouraging as many people as possible to come along to express their views, provide support for the development of the community and elect a committee of energetic and committed people who will take things forward.

The current Community Council is: Chairman, Enda McGorman; secretary, Margaret Comiskey; treasurer, Sean Gibbons; PRO, Lisa Smyth; committee, Mary Harrahill, Val O'Brien, James Hackett, Elizabeth Donaghy, John Donohoe, Pat Conlon, Linda Murray.
