Seven new bus stops for Navan N1 network

Seven new bus stops for the Navan local bus network are to be provided throughout the town, including four to facilitate an extended service into Johnstown.

Meath Co Council has applied for planning permission to construct the seven new stops across the Navan area.

The new bus facilities will be constructed at five locations and will include seven new separate bus stops and associated pedestrian facilities.

The proposed scheme provides for new road markings, bus stop poles, flags, and carousel display units.

“Four bus stops will be located in and around Johnstown Village. When completed they will extend the existing N1 network in the area,” the Mayor Of Navan, Cllr Eddie Fennessy explains.

“I've long campaigned for a bus to service the village and I'm delighted to see progress at last. It is great news for local residents and their children. I'm sure they'll be delighted to avail of the service when it is up and running.

“Two additional stops will be constructed on the N2 route at Belcourt and on the Blackcastle estate. The Belcourt stop in particular is something I've called for repeatedly and the local residents I deal with, will certainly be overjoyed with this good news.

“Additional infrastructure on the NX route from Johnstown to Kennedy Road is included in the council's plan. A new bus stop will be installed on Academy Street near the entrance to the Baker Hall Estate.

“There are 450 households living on Baker Hall. Public transport options at that location makes complete sense. I'm sure the residents will appreciate it.

“The provision of sustainable transport infrastructure is something I always welcome. I look forward to watching our local network grow over the coming years,” he said.

“The town bus service is very a well used and popular service. We recently learned that there have been 410,000 journeys made by bus users since the service was relaunched in 2020,” he said.
