Letters to the Editor: Theft of ornamental doves from our family grave on Good Friday broke my heart

(Editor, Meath Chronicle)

Dear Sir - Those of us that came to London in 1955 only had the cost of our fare, I was one of nine children, some that came were only 14.

It was hard going, so young dealing with discrimination, we worked hard and sent our money home.

I recently bought two ornamental figures of doves, the sign of peace. My niece was over on a visit to Coventry, I took them down and gave them to her to put on our family grave in Ballinacree, the resting place of both my parents, my brother who drowned in Lough Sheelin aged 14 in 1966, and my brother who was laid to rest there three years ago.

It brought tears to my eyes to be told they were stolen off the grave on Good Friday.

I am 86 now, and unable to go back to the place I call home.

What creep crawled into the church yard to steal from the dead, and from me?

Yours

Mrs Margaret Cameron
