Youthreach Navan through to Junk Kouture finals

Youthreach Navan are through to the Dublin City Finals of Junk Kouture.

From over 1,200 designs, Batik Chic was selected in the final 60, to move on to the live Dublin City Final in May.

Batik Chic is an upcycled jumpsuit created with batik fabric (a printing process in which wax is applied to the fabric in specific areas). The artwork was created by past Youthreach students and the late Youthreach co-ordinator Sharon Maher, who sadly passed away last October.

Youthreach Navan said: "This design is in memory of her legacy and all she did for the students here at Youthreach Navan. The piece also symbolises the work Sharon did for Global Schools in an effort to reduce waste, be more sustainable in your everyday life and combat fast fashion. Everything about this design reflects the vibrant colourful life that Sharon lead."

They added: "This is a huge accomplishment for our amazing students, designers Blue Sherlock and Micheala Nugent and our fantastic model Leah Holland. We are just over the moon for the Batik Chic Team and all they have achieved over the past months preparing for the show."
