The father and son combination of Brendan McGill and his son Kyle played their parts in helping St Colmcille's secure a big win over Donaghamore/Ashbourne in this FL Div 8 encounter at Ashbourne.

This is the Cilles' fourth team and the certainly produced the goods for this refixed game with the McGills involved.

Kyle started in midfield while dad Brendan lined out as a forward and helped himself to two points in what was a real family affair.

This Cilles selection is the development team which introduces last year's minors to adult football assisted in this task by some more experienced players.

From the throw in the Cilles took the game to Ashbourne with five unanswered point before Ashbourne's first point.

The Cilles added another four points to another form Ashbourne before the home team struck the back of the net with the games first goal.

In fitting with the manner in which they had been playing this young Cilles team responded immediately with their first goal from Gavin D’Arcy which left the half time score: St Colmcille's 1-9, Donaghmore/Ashbourne's 1-2.

Given the nature of this development team the Cilles made a number of changes at half time but proceeded to dominate the score board adding three goals and eight points to their total without conceding.

The match provided an introduction to adult football to nine minors who lined out in the first half and another four who were introduced during the second half.

The match also saw a return to Cilles colours for Eric O’Brien who hadn’t lined out for the club for eight years.

It was great to see the enthusiasm shown by all the players and a special mention must go to talented veteran Brendan McGill who lined out with his son Kyle in their first competitive match together.

As expected the Ashbourne side fought all the way in a match that was played in an excellent spirit.
