Well-known biker dies in workplace accident in Navan

Slane man Killian Galligan, well-known for his past motorbike racing and current cycling club involvements, died in a workplace accident in Navan on Friday.

It is understood that he was working at a telecommunications mast on a site at the Proudstown Road when it collapsed.

The Health and Safety Authority has confirmed it is investigating the death.

Navan Gardai attended the scene and a file is being is being prepared for the Coroners Court.

Mr Galligan, of Rushfield Lodge, Knockmooney, Slane, was a native of Clonmellon, Co Westmeath, where his father was well-known as a garda based in Delvin. He is survived by his wife, Maria, his sons Marius and Jamie, parents, Maura and Tommy, his siblings Jacinta, Sharon, Eunan, Ultan and Anna, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law on both sides, his nieces and his nephews and all his many circles of friends. He was predeceased by his godson, Tiarnan Welland.

He had attended Clonmellon NS, Kells CBS, and Bolton Street College of Technology.

Drumbaragh Emmets GFC extended condolences to his brother, Eunan, and the Galligan family on the tragic passing of Killian.

“Well known for his exploits on the motorcycle circuit, Killian was extremely proud of the sporting achievements of his nephews Luke and Jack in the Drumbaragh jersey,” the club stated.

“A Clonmellon man at heart, Killian made Slane his home, but he was very well known in this parish as a gentleman. Known for his kindness, his work ethic and a unique chilled-out personality.”

Mr Galligan's remains will repose at St Joseph's Chapel of Rest, Old Johnstown, Navan on Wednesday evening from 4pm to 7pm, arriving to St Patrick's Church Slane on Thursday for 12 noon funeral Mass, with burial Afterwards in St Erc's Cemetery, Slane.
