Counting of votes in the Family and care referendums gets underway in Meath

Counting of votes has begun in the two referendums on the issues of Family and Care.

Turnout across the country was reported to be mixed when polls closed at 10pm last night. According to RTE turnout reached 50% in some parts of the country, but remained below 30% elsewhere.

The results are expected to be declared separately this afternoon and this evening.

Counting of votes in Meath is taking place at St Loman's Park, Trim GAA (Meath West) and Donaghamore Ashbourne GAA Club (Meath East)

The results of the referendum on the Thirty-ninth Amendment of the Constitution (The Family) Bill 2023 will be announced first. The results of the Fortieth Amendment of the Constitution (Care) Bill 2023 will follow.

The counts from all constituencies will be collated in Dublin Castle where the results will be declared, firstly in the Family referendum - expected in the afternoon - and later in the Care referendum expected in the evening.

The eleigible electorate in Meath East was 65,017 and in Meath West it was 66,164.
