First Ukrainian families due to arrive at Garlow Cross accommodation in the coming weeks

The Tara Na Ri premises at Garlow Cross outside Navan is to accommodate Ukrainian refugees, with the first families due to arrive in the next few weeks.

The Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth (DCEDIY) has advised Meath Co Council it has entered a contract with Tara Na Ri Ltd to provide accommodation for Beneficiaries of Temporary Protection from Ukraine at the premises.

An early morning sea mist rolled on to Laytown beach shrouding the iconic Nanny cottage, swirling along up the coastline to create an unsettling, ghostly landscape.

Through the salty haze the crunch of sneakers on sand could be heard growing louder, voices animated, labradoodles barking, their yelps breaking through the cold morning air.

Contractor apointed to deliver cycle and walking link between Blackwater Park and the Boyne Valley to Lakelands Greenway

A CONTRACTOR has been appointed to deliver a cycle and walking link between Blackwater Park and the Boyne Valley to Lakelands Greenway.

The Navan end of the greenway commences just north of the junction of the Ratholdren Road and the Clonmagadden Road. Works recently began on the new local distributor road (LDR4) which will see a new road from this junction to the Navan/Kells road including a new bridge over the River Blackwater.

Time for a change?... Cloth Nappy Library launches in Trim

As part of its ongoing efforts to reduce its use of plastic, Trim Tidy Towns has welcomed the launch of a new Cloth Nappy Library in Trim.

The Cloth Nappy Library (CLN), which will be hosted by Cult: Zero Organic Shop on Emmet Street, and funded by Meath Co Council will offer parents of newborns and infants the opportunity to move away from environmentally unfriendly disposable nappies.

Householders in the path of North South Interconnector pylons offered up to €30,000

Households living within 200 metres of pylons along the route the proposed North South Interconnector are being offered compensation of between €5,000 and €30,000.

Eirgrid has written to 300 households, whose homes are within 200 metres of the proposed pylons, advising that compensation will be paid on a sliding scale, with households living within 50 metres of the centre of a pylon offered €30,000, while those living within 125 metres are being offered €17,000 and those within 200 metres can avail of €5,000 in compensation.
