'Pop-Up Gaeltacht' gathering in Navan
Cé go raibh rudaí ciúin ar feadh cúpla bliain, dá bharr na pandéime, tá Craobh na hUaimhe de Conradh na Gaeilge arais beo le imeachtaí éagsúla con an Gaeilge a chur chun cinn sa cheantar.
The Navan branch of Conradh na Gaeilge is back in action and hopes to increase its membership by attracting anyone with an interest in our native language, no matter what level or standard you are. There are many people out there who would love to improve their Irish, but never get a chance to speak and practice it.
Some parents have commented that they would love to be able to help their children with their lessons but have gone so ‘rusty’ that they are too weak to be of much use. Some people enjoy watching TG4, whether it’s sport, music or the news programmes and have said that they wished their Irish was better in order to follow what is being said. No matter what your preference, Conradh welcomes everyone with an interest and aims to help and give the opportunity to meet other speakers or learners in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.
Although there are no formal classes taking place at the moment, they are planning to start as soon as we have sufficient numbers to make it worthwhile. In the meantime, a Pop-up-Gaeltacht’ gathers every few weeks for an evening of ‘Comhrá, Ceol & Craic’.
‘Seachtain na Gaeilge’ from 10th to 17th March sees a host of events with a strong emphasis on the language. Starting on Sunday 10th, the traditional group Garadice with renowned singer Eleanor Shanley will play a concert at the Solstice Theatre, Navan. Following days will include a singing night, table-quiz, Pop-up Gaeltacht, senior and junior music sessions, ciorcal-comhrá, story-telling and St Patrick’s day with Aifreann Gaelach and of course more music, all with a strong emphasis on the language.
