VIDEO: Runners and walkers flock to Laytown for first seaside Parkrun event
Over 300 people took to the start line for the inaugural Laytown beach Parkrun this morning (Saturday, 2nd March).
The sun shone on the strand for the first coastal hosting of the popular running and walking event that takes place every weekend in locations all over Ireland.
Parkrun is a free, community event where you can walk, jog, run, volunteer or spectate and takes place over 5km every Saturday morning.
There are currently 147 parkrun events around the country taking place every weekend, with more locations being added all of the time. Laytown is the latest to join that list.
Minister for Sport and East Meath TD, Thomas Byrne, Cllrs Sharon Tolan and Tom Behan were among those taking part with runners coming from other Parkrun locations (Oldbridge and Navan) to support the first timers and soak up the Saturday seaside sunshine.
