Stephen Coogan lofted over a last-gasp free to secure a narrow 2-10 to 2-9 victory for a tenacious Dunderry side over St Ultan's in this Tailteann Cup encounter at a wet and windy Dunganny last evening.
It didn't look too promising for Dunderry early on as St Ultan's that got off to a flyer with a pointed free followed by a penalty and a point from play to lead 1-2 to no score.
The Coogan brothers - Stephen and Liam - turned the tables around. Liam tapped over before up stood Dan Egenton first with the right then with the left.
Stephen Coogan pointed from a free to leave it level midway through the half. A converted free for St Ultan's was cancelled out by a well taken point, scored by Stephen Coogan, from play.
A Jack Connelly run found Isaac McKeever and he waltzed through the green and black defence and buried the ball in the back of the net with a well-taken shot that gave the St Ultan's 'keeper no chance.
St Ultan's replied with a free first, then a goal. At the break St Ultan's led 2-5 to 1-6.
The first score of the second half was a goal from wing back Simon Carty which was followed up with a Coogan free.
Three unanswered points from play for the Ultan's had them one up coming to the closing stages and with Liam Coogan going off on a second yellow the Black and Whites looked in trouble.
Stephen Coogan converted two more placed balls to set up a tense finish. A fine point from play levelled proceedings for a final time before Coogan used his years of experience to convert the last free of the game to make it two wins from two for Dunderry.
Best for the winners were Mc Keever and Stepen Coogan up front with Carty and Connelly linking the play well along with the midfield duo of of Conor Sheridan and Egenton.
