Meath triplets help DCU to pass final test

Corbett brothers part of big win

Brothers-in-arms. DCU won the All-Ireland Freshers Div 1 football final against University of Galway on Wednesday night of last week and uniquely there was set of triplets from Meath on the winners' panel.

Thomas Corbett, Sean Corbett and Liam Corbett from Ratoath were part of the DCU winning squad in what was a memorable day for them, their college and their family.

Liam lined out at corner back however Tomas and Sean had to be content with a place on the subs bench for the showdown. They were part of a DCU side that contained players from 16 different counties.

The match was played in DCU and the victors exerted their dominance very early on before pushing on to chalk out a 4-8 to 0-8 win. The talented triplets were joined by fellow Meath men Jack Kinlough (Dunboyne), Eoin Drysdale (Ratoath), Tom Bowden (Duleek/Bellewstown) and Tadhg Martin (Slane) on the winning squad. The final was refereed by Dunshaughlin match official Andrew Smith.

Shaun Ward, Ryan Sinkey, Drysdale and Liam Flynn all found the net for DCU. Three of the winners' goals were scored in the final five minutes.

The University of Galway selection had Dylan Brody from north Meath club, St Brigid's in their line up.

As well as talented footballers the Corbett brothers are also accomplished hurlers. They were part of the Ratoath panel that lost out to Kildalkey in last year's Meath SHC final. They were also major figures in helping Ratoath claim the club's one and only county MHC Division 1 title in 2021.
