Navan cllrs take monthly meeting out on the road

History was made last week, when Navan Municipal Council held its monthly meeting in Bohermeen, the first time ever outside the town of Navan.

Councillors and council officials travelled to Bohermeen for the meeting which took place in Bohermeen Community centre, a focal point for the local community since it was opened by President Hillary in 1984.

Afterwards, the Mayor of Navan, Cllr Eddie Fennessy said they had made "a small bit of history".

"We brought the Navan Municipal District Council on tour to the Bohermeen Community Centre. It was the first time that a Navan Area Council meeting was held outside of the town boundaries. "Holding council meetings across the constituency is a valuable community engagement. I will be proposing that we do more of it, particularly in rural areas. "Rural Ireland is the beating heart of our country. We need to increase our engagement with rural communities if we are to better understand their needs. "I thank the Executive for agreeing to travel to Bohermeen. Bohermeen is an integral part of the Navan Municipal District and it was good to visit the area in an official capacity.

"On behalf of the Navan Municipal District Council, I thank Stephen Ball and the Bohermeen Community Centre Committee for their hospitality and for facilitating the meeting. We will definitely be back".

Plans are currently in train for a major renovation and modernisation of the local Community Centre. Throughout the years the centre has been a space for local parent and toddler groups, Bohermeen Athletic Club, the local bowls club and other local groups. It even temporarily played home to the local church during renovations a number of years back, while just last December, it housed an extremely successful Christmas Market.
