Julianstown ‘traffic chaos’ needs to be urgently addressed

Calls have been made for urgent action to address the “desperate” traffic situation in Julianstown that has seen videos of chaotic traffic scenes going viral on social media.

The issue was raised at February’s Laytown/Bettystown Municipal District meeting by Labour Cllr Elaine McGinty who said:

“There are videos circulating at the moment on Facebook and all social media platforms about how desperate the traffic has got through Julianstown.

“Just when you think it couldn’t get any worse, there are people posting how bad it is at the moment so we are in a real crisis for transport solutions in South Drogheda and East Meath. If we are going to continue and build houses in East Meath, we are beyond urgently in need of traffic solutions active measures.”

Meanwhile Fine Gael Councillor, Sharon Tolan called on Meath Co Council to install new Average Speed Limit technology in Julianstown as a measure to address serious road safety issues.

Funding and Planning Permission exists for a new Julianstown Traffic Management Scheme which includes new footpath works, pedestrian crossings and raised tables throughout the village, however this plan has been delayed until Uisce Eireann complete their upgrade works in Julianstown.
