Meath IFA members to protest in Navan this evening

Meath IFA will hold a protest in Navan this evening as part of series of rallies being organised by the IFA across the country to show solidarity with farmers across Europe.

Meath farmers will meet at the car park of the Navan Retail Park on the Athboy Road at 7.30pm for a tractor protest.

It is one of a series of protests taking place nationwide this evening between 7pm and 9pm.

IFA President Francie Gorman said that farmers around the country will be out in solidarity with their EU counterparts this evening

A meeting of the IFA National Council yesterday agreed the action. Mr Gorman said: "Farmers here have been watching the protests across Europe. They are just as frustrated by what is happening as farmers in other countries. They feel they are being regulated out of business by Brussels bureaucrats and Department of Agriculture officials who are far removed from the reality of day-to-day farming."

This evening, through local structures, IFA will be providing an opportunity for farmers to show solidarity with farmers who are protesting in Germany, France, Belgium and other member states.

“Irish farmers are pro-EU, but there is mounting frustration about the impact of EU policy on European farmers, and its implementation here in Ireland. The general feeling amongst farmers across the EU is that ‘enough is enough’,” he said.

The IFA President encouraged farmers to join in their local events.
