Marshals on standby to assist with Navan traffic flow changes

As Navan prepares for major changes in traffic due to be implemented on Sunday, traffic marshals will be on standby at key junctions.

The marshals will be in place for a week following the implementation of the changes, which includes reversal of traffic flow on Bridge Street and Ludlow Street, at 4pm on Sunday.

Temporary signage, in addition to the permanent road markings and traffic signs which will be installed/erected at the weekend, will be in place for a period also. Variable Message Signage (VMS) have been erected at four locations on approaches to the town centre to advise motorists of the changes.

Meath Co Council has said some traffic delays are anticipated immediately following implementation as road users adjust to the new traffic restrictions and junction layouts.

The new traffic measures are being implemented to facilitate the introduction of bus services to Kennedy Road and the new bus interchange facility. From 4pm on Sunday, traffic will be permanently restricted from travelling southbound on Ludlow Street and Bridge Street via Market Square and Timmons Hill, and also onto Bridge Street via Church Hill, with the direction reversed.

Traffic flow will become two-way on Market Square from the Kennedy Road / Trimgate Street junction to the ‘Bull’ sculpture at Market Square, with the traffic direction reversed on the southern side of Market Square to provide a ‘bus gate’ (to facilitate buses, taxis and cyclists travelling from the Ludlow Street direction).

On Timmons Hill, traffic shall be restricted to a right turn only at the junction with Market Square

Traffic coming up Ludlow Street will continue down Watergate Street, while be buses, taxis and bicycles can proceed to Kennedy Road.

Local access will be maintained to Woods Financial Building and Clonard House. On Church Hill traffic will be restricted to a left turn only and entry to Bridge Street will only be permitted via Academy Street, and a left turn from Circular Road. Exit shall be via Church Hill or Ludlow Street.

Meanwhile the NX, 109 and 190 bus services will operate to and from new bus-stops on Kennedy Road, starting Sunday.

Bus Stop 189571 on Kennedy Road will serve routes NX and 109 from Dublin and route 190 to Drogheda, while Stop 189521 is for routes NX and 109 to Dublin; and for route 190 to Trim/Athlone.

The NX services travelling from Dublin to Kennedy Road will continue onwards to the new Moathill (N51) Park and Ride and the NX to Dublin will ‘board’ passengers at the Park and Ride and then travel to Kennedy Road .

Meanwhile, Bus Eireann is also advising customers that from Monday, the Bus Stops at Ashbourne Fire Station Ashbourne – stop 100971 (Northbound) and 101481 (Southbound) will be temporarily relocated affecting Route 109A.

Customers can board Route 109A at the temporary Bus Stop on the R135 towards Ballybin Rd at (Rath Cross Business Park).

This relocation will be in place for a period of eight weeks.
