25 per cent of new cars registered in Meath in 2023 were electric vehicles

A QUARTER of new cars registered in Meath last year were electric vehicles according to figures compiled by the Society of the Irish Motor Industry.

A total of 4,167 new vehicles were registered in Meath in 2023 compared with 3,680 in 2022, an increase of 12.23 per cent. Of the 4,167 new vehicles registered last year, 1046 or 25 per cent were electric.

The best selling car brand in Meath was Toyota which accounted for 16.7 per cent of all cars sold, or 696 vehicles. In second place was Hyundai with 581 vehicles or 13.94 per cent of the market, followed by Volkswagen with 465 vehicles or 11.16 per cent. The rest of the top ten was made up of Kia (384), Skoda (332), Nissan (178), Tesla (177), Ford (158), Peugeot (156) and Dacia (137).

In 2022, 45 new Tesla cars were registered in Meath but this grew to 177 last year- a rise of a staggering 293 per cent.

Of the top ten car brands sold last year all but three saw an increase in sales compared to 2022 with Nissan (-15.64 per cent), Ford (-14.13 per cent)and Peugeot (-19.17 per cent) all seeing a decline in vehicles sold in 2023 compared to the previous year.
