Slane pupils record charity single to help local families

Kind-hearted students in St Patrick’s National School in Slane have recorded a special charity Christmas song to support families in the community.

The 5th class students had the time of their life recently when they visited Slane Studios to record the Hudson Taylor song "That's How I Know it's Christmas”

As well as the musical contribution, the thoughtful bunch have also set up a fundraising page with all donations going to St. Vincent de Paul.

No strangers to recording music, students in Slane has previously released an array of Christmas crackers with accompanying videos including 'I Wish It Could be Christmas Everyday' by Roy Wood and Slade’s 'Merry Christmas Everybody’ and Band Aid's 'Do they know it's Christmas.’

Their teacher, Kevin Fagan, is a musician and actor himself and is involved with St Mary's Musical Society.

"The kids look forward to this time of year so much, and they wanted to help as many other families as possible enjoy Christmas,” he said.

"We rehearsed for a number of weeks with the children playing piano, guitar, drums, bass guitar, Mandolin, banjo, cello and violin on the day. On top of that they recorded all the vocals to create their version of the Hudson Taylor song "That's How I Know it's Christmas,”he added.

"They're a really hardworking group and I'm so proud of them.”

The talented students are selling CDs of their Charity single from Slane School next week but as it may not be possible for everyone to receive a physical copy of the CD, a GoFundMe campaign has been set up where people might like to donate towards the cause with digital copies of the song to be sent to those who wish to receive it.
