Navan woman nominated for national award for supporting local community

A Navan woman who works at the Amazon delivery station in Dublin has been nominated for a national award thanks to her outstanding efforts supporting the local community.

Roberta Ieremie who works at Amazon in Dublin as a shift manager, was nominated for a national Amazon Stars award by her colleagues at the delivery station.

Amazon Stars, now in its fourth year, is a UK and Ireland Amazon campaign that recognises and rewards Amazon employees who go above and beyond for their local community by using their skills, time and passion to help others.

Roberta, who joined Amazon in 2021, is a passionate supporter of the Meath community, taking part in many fundraising and volunteering campaigns in her spare time over the last two years. It’s this passion for making a positive impact in her community that has seen Roberta nominated in this year’s Amazon Stars awards.

Roberta’s support of her community means she is in with a chance of winning one of two Dream Boxes, the top prize awarded as part of the Amazon Stars campaign. A Dream Box, worth €1,500, is a personalised prize to honour Amazon’s top two community heroes in the UK and Ireland.

Roberta was nominated for the award by her colleagues for her work on increasing awareness of cultural events and her support to community organisations.

During her time at the Amazon delivery station in Belfast, Roberta saw an opportunity to bring her personal love of diversity into the workplace and set about organising a wide range of events to celebrate different cultures from around the world.

Roberta organised events to celebrate Lunar New Year, Holi, St Patrick’s Day, International Women’s Day, India Independence Day, LGBTQIA+ History Month, Diwali, Black History Month and more. She was also responsible for launching local branches of a number of affinity groups at Amazon in Belfast as an ally, including Asians at Amazon and the Amazon Black Employee Network (BEN).

“I think it’s great way to have conversations about our cultures and where we come from, Roberta said. I want everyone at Amazon to envisage themselves as a leader, regardless of their background, and the conversations I’ve tried to encourage as part of my diversity work are a huge part of that.”

In addition to Roberta’s work in increasing awareness of different cultural events, she also goes above and beyond for community organisations like NI Cancer Fund for Children and Foodstock NI.

“I was thinking about things I could do to help community organisations, and I knew we had partnered with NI Cancer Fund for Children in the past,” she explains. “I worked with our team here at Amazon to secure lots of toys, books and games and then took them along to Daisy Lodge, the charity’s headquarters in Co Down, and it all grew from there.

Amazon Delivery Station Manager, Hatem Abdel Barr, added: “At Amazon, we’re passionate about positively impacting the communities we serve, and Roberta embodies that ethos.

"Roberta goes above and beyond to support our community and everyone at Amazon in Dublin is proud that she has been nominated for this fantastic award.”
