Five Meath animal charities to receive €56,025 in funding

Five animal welfare charities across Meath are to receive Government funding.

Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Charlie McConalogue TD announced that 101 animal welfare charities across the country are set to receive a share of €6million. This is an increase of €200,000 from last year.

The five Meath charities are in line to receive a combined total of €56,025.

Back into Daylight Animal Sanctuary, Navan will receive €4,000; Last Hope Animal Charity, Navan will receive €15,600; Leinster Horse and Pony Rescue, Kiltoome, Navan Road, Trim will receive €18,150; Meath SPCA Leafin, Nobber will receive €4,150 and Mollies Animal Rescue, Newtown, Common, Duleek will receive €14,125.

This year the government are strongly focusing on supporting charities involved in rehoming dogs. It has been a particularly challenging year in terms of dog welfare and for those working in rescue centres.

The funding announcement was made during a visit by the Minister McConalogue to the Dublin Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (DSPCA) last Thursday.

He said: “Animal welfare is a priority for me and for my Department and is important to us all in Ireland. I am delighted to announce that I am providing the highest ever level of funding by my Department to animal welfare charities.

“I recognise that this year, dog welfare charities have had additional pressures to deal with, and so the increase in funding is focused on providing additional support for those organisations."
