New homes in Kells will enable those with intellectual disabilities to “reach their full potential”

Two brand new residential homes in Kells will enable those with intellectual disabilities to “reach their full potential” according to a community based support service.

Six new residents have moved into the state of the art homes delivered by Clann Mór that have round the clock support in place.

This follows on from Clann Mor’s nomination and win of this year’s Meath Business and Tourism awards 2023 ‘Not for Profit’ Award. Clann Mór’s Director of services, Martine Healy accepted the award on the night of the 17th of November in the Knightsbrook Hotel.

Clann Mór is a community-based residential, respite and outreach support service for adults with mild and moderate intellectual disabilities. The organisation was founded in the 1980’s when a group of parents and friends set it up as a voluntary organisation. It is now governed by a Board of Directors.

It has enabled residents to live in community-based homes in Navan, Ashbourne and Kells or avail of breaks in Clann Mór’s respite service centre in Navan. Clann Mor is mainly funded by the HSE and registered with the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) whose focus is to ensure that residents are safe and well cared for.

"This has given three residents the opportunity to live in their forever homes,” said Director of Services Martine Healy. "We have staff support in both houses 24/7 as required where people will live beside their equal citizens in the world and enjoy living in peace and prosperity,”she added.

"Clann Mór strives to provide an excellent quality of life for our residents. We aim to assist our residents in becoming valued, active and contributing members of their chosen community and help them to reach their full potential."

Some testimonials from their new residents include:

‘We all get along very well in the house. It is important to me to have my own independence and I don’t have to rely on anyone to bring me here or there. The staff here at Clann Mór understand how I feel and really help me achieve my goals.’ – L. A.

‘Since I arrived at Clann Mór I needn’t Look back. It is onwards I’m looking, because the way I am being treated here at Clann Mór is as if they were my own family. My days at Clann Mór are extremely happy days.’ -J C.

Clann Mór say they could not have opened these houses without the continued support from the HSE, The Meath County Council and all the family and friends of their resident’s past and present.
