More public lighting needed in Navan estate
The need for additional public lighting in St Mary' Park in Navan particularly at an alleyway was highlighted at a recent meeting of Navan Municipal Council.
Cllr Tommy Reilly called on Meath County Council to erect public lighting between houses number 59 and 60 in the alleyway at St Mary’s Park.
"We urgently needs lights in that area. There is a problem with anti-social behaviour around the alley and there was an attempted break-in there recently," he said.
He was told his request for public lighting at St Mary's Park had been added to the list of potential capital public lighting schemes, but the requests for new lighting far outstrips the resources to deliver them.
Officials explained that demand on resources is exacerbated as Meath Co Council is engaged in a regional programme with eight other counties to upgrade all existing street lighting to LED.
This contract commenced in 2022 and is a 36 month programme for the region. This will ensure all 19,000 street lights in the county of Meath are LED, including the existing lighting at St Mary’s Park.
The additional lights for St Mary's Park will be put forward as a potential scheme in future work programmes, when resources become available.
