Festive favourite The Moving Crib opens on Parnell Square for Christmas season

It has been the centre of negative news over the past week, but recent days have seen the opening of a festive favourite on Parnell Square in Dublin, the 'Moving Crib', Dublin’s beloved 67-year holiday tradition.

Opened on Tuesday last, until 7th January next on Parnell Square West, Dublin 1, The Moving Crib offers free, family-friendly fun guaranteed to delight visitors of all ages.

For almost seven decades, The Moving Crib has brought the Christmas story to life with its charming, old-world nativity scene. Handcrafted figurines depict Mary, Joseph, baby Jesus, shepherds, kings, and animals surrounding the manger. The highlight is seeing the three wise men, and their camels slowly move closer to the crib each day, just as the Bible describes. It’s a heart-warming experience of the true meaning of Christmas.

“The Moving Crib has been a beloved part of Christmas in Dublin for generations,” said Darragh Murphy, general manager of the Saint Martin Apostolate. “We are thrilled to once again welcome families from near and far to share the story of Christmas in this unique way. Christmas is a time for community and bringing people together; The Moving Crib has been fostering that spirit of togetherness for 67 years. We invite everyone to join us once again this season to experience the wonder and joy of Christmas.”

The Moving Crib is easily accessible by car or public transport and a perfect way to get into the holiday spirit whether you are from the locality or are visiting Dublin for a spot of Christmas shopping.

As always, The Moving Crib event features music, carol singing, and festive cheer with the Bray Gospel Choir performing soul-stirring renditions of beloved Christmas carols and gospel songs on Sunday 10 December, from 12 noon to 4 pm. Visitors are invited to join in and sing along to favourite Yuletide tunes.
