Unstoppable St Colmcille's S.N.S. players pass test with honours

BOYS' DIVISION 1 FINAL

TOM GANNON

While the scoreline is probably a bit flattering, St Colmcille's S.N.S. did put in a massive performance to claim the Boys Division 1 final. Led by their captain Tadhg Ó Morgáin, who finished with an impressive tally of 4-2, Kells were particularly dominant in the second half and are deserving 2023 Cumann Na mBunscol Div 1 champions

Straight from the throw-in, Kells got off to a brilliant start. Wing forward Cillian O Maidín laid off the ball to Louis O Loinsigh who finished it beautifully to the net to give Kells an early goal. O Maidin was again involved in Kells’ second goal this time assisting Seamus Chamberlayne who palmed it to the back of the Ratoath net.

Ratoath struck back with an excellent goal from Senan Brady and Cian Flanagan followed this up with a pointed free to leave four points between the sides after fifteen minutes of play.

At the break led by six and they got off to a flying start in the second half. Their captain Tadgh Ó Morgaín led by example by burying his shot to the top corner of the net. Points from Pierce Calwell and two from Cian Flanagan gave Ratoath hope as we entered the final fifteen minutes.

Shortly after though that hope was dashed when a second Tadgh Ó MorgaÍn bullet found the back of the Ratoath net. The opening goalscorer O Loinsigh immediately followed this up with a well-taken point.

HarraÍ Mac Airt provided Kells’ fifth goal of the game and gave Kells a fourteen-point lead. After a fantastic solo run from Cillian O Maidín, the wing forward gave a lovely pass to Cian O Bradaigh who finished it to the net to score St Colmcille’s sixth.

Kells were now dominant over a tired Ratoath team and their seventh, eighth and ninth goals came late on in the game. Captain fantastic Ó MorgaÍn provided two of these and while the third went the way of Mac Airt.

It was a fantastic display from a magnificent young Kells team to claim the top honours at the end of a fantastic day of Cumann Na mBunscol finals.
