Loreto Class of ‘73 set for a nostalgia-packed reunion
A NAVAN woman seeking past pupils of Loreto Secondary School in Navan for a 50th reunion for class of 1973 says she has had “a fantastic response.”
Joan Powell is organising the school reunion lunch in the Ardboyne Hotel on Saturday, 2nd December at 1pm for all the ladies who completed their Leaving Cert in 1973 and is encouraging former students to turn up on the day.
“We have had a great reaction since we put the word out there and now we have 28 people confirmed for lunch,” said Joan. “ I actually went ahead and booked a private room and we are delighted with the response we have got,” she added.
“We have even started a WhatsApp group and have been reminiscing and putting up photographs and talking about the nuns and different things about what happened to who or where someone is now so it has been fantastic.
“We can’t wait for Saturday to finally meet up in person!”
Joan’s mother sadly passed away during the summer and meeting old friends inspired the idea for the reunion as she previously explained:
“I sat my Leaving Cert in 1973 in St Michael's and it just dawned on me, this is 2023, it’s our 50th anniversary, we have to do something to mark the occasion,” said Joan.
“I met one or two of the friends I went to school with and I threw it out there as a suggestion and it has kind of taken legs but there is still a lot of girls we are trying to contact.
“As you can imagine it's proving quite difficult to contact everyone, sadly some ladies have passed away or moved on and there is no past pupils committee to help me,” she added.
Joan said that it’s nothing too fancy, instead it’s just a chance for old school friends to get together and just catch up on what they’ve been up to since leaving school 50 years ago.
“It is an informal lunch just to get together and reconnect with people. Anyone I have spoken to is really in favour of it so hopefully it will be a really enjoyable afternoon.”
