Navan Theatre Group stages three nights of one-act plays

Drama group celebrates success on festival circuit

Navan Theatre Group (NTG) stages 'A Night of One Acts' at Solstice Arts Centre, Navan, from 23rd to 25th November. (Which is actually three nights of one acts!) This year, three group members will direct three one-act plays with the aim of providing some thought-provoking and laugh-out-loud theatre showcasing some of the best acting and directing talent that amateur drama in Navan has to offer.

The line-up each night will include 'Acorn Fields' by Barry Wood, 'A Dog’s Life' by Pam Valentine and 'I’m Not A.D.H.D, I’m B.O.L.D!' by Georgina McKevitt and Jacinta Sheerin.

Deirdre Gilbride will direct Acorn Fields, a short comedy, set in a nursing home where Charlie Finch arrives to drop off his dear father. He is treated like a king by the dear nurse Jackie ... why is what we must ask ourselves! The cute Agnes is certainly entertained by the shenanigans!

Marc O’Driscoll will direct A Dog’s Life, a compassionate drama depicts the moment a woman arrives at an animal shelter and has to choose which dog to take home - a choice that literally means life or death!

Liam Brady will direct 'I’m Not A.D.H.D, I’m B.O.L.D!' Dana, a primary school teacher with ADD is forced to attend therapy following a string of events, one involving an ADHD boy, a milk carton and some very strong language! Ingrid, the drama therapist, has her own personal issues. One day, one therapy room, one distressed puppet!

Tickets can be purchased at https://solsticeartscentre.ie/ or by calling Solstice Arts Centre on (046) 909 2300.

Meanwhile, Navan Theatre Group's production of Ciara Cassoni's 'Dope' competed in six festivals over the past two months and were named award winners at a number of these, including Best Actor - Nigel Ryan, Best Actress - Ciara Cassoni, Best Director - Des Lynch , Best Comedic Moment - Nigel Ryan, and an Audience Award.

It reeceived a first place and four second placings, but will not be progressing onto the All-Ireland Finals. Everyone involved would like to thank all of NTG and the wider community for their continued support and encouragement along the way.
