Rathcairn students are literary prizewinners

Two students at Coláiste Pobail Ráth Chairn have won first prizes in literary competitions as part of Oireachtas na Gaeilge. Dylan Ó Crualaoich and Muireann Ní Uaithne were presented with their prizes at in Killarney last week, at Oireachtas na Gaeilge – the largest and most significant gathering of Gaeil/ Irish speakers of the year.

The five day long festival is comprised of singing, dancing, drama and literary competitions as well as talks, music, fairs and Club na Féile – a celebration that extends into the small hours.

Dylan won the under 16 poetry competition with his poem 'Is Madra Mé i nDomhan Cait', while Muireann won first place for a journalistic article she wrote. Both picked up prize money of €200 for winning their categories.

Principal of Coláiste Pobail Ráth Chairn, Róisín Ní Dhúshláine said the accolades for these students recognises the rich cultural heritage of the Ráth Chairn Gaeltacht area and is something Meath should be very proud of.

"We are so proud that two of our students have received this recognition for their work. There is an extremely rich tradition of art, literature and music in Ráth Chairn and we are delighted to celebrate it," she added.
