No school wardens for Brews Hill crossing
Meath County Council won't be providing a school safety warden at Brews Hill in Navan to facilitate pupils from the Mercy schools.
The Mayor of Navan, Cllr Eddie Fennessy, had called for a lollipop person to be provided at Brews Hill to deal with the recent increased footfall there, but was told the council does not have the required trained personnel available or any additional resources for this location.
There is a designed controlled pedestrian crossing in place at the location. The council has pointed out that this a short-term issue due to the school closing another entrance for construction purposes. It was a condition of planning permission that the school submit a mobility management plan to deal with car, cycle parking and pedestrian access. This condition was inserted to ensure the safety of their pupils leaving the school grounds.
Cllr Fennessy pointed out that there was a lot of construction work taking place on the school campus.
"It has restricted access to the school and placed additional pressure on the Brews Hill entrance," he said. "A number of concerned parents asked me to request the provision of a lollipop woman/man on Brewshill to better manage the increased footfall there. The council's reply is understandable, however, provision of a lollipop woman/man would not be permanent. I had hoped that we could reach an agreement. I will continue to monitor the situation and make a renew my request if it is necessary to do so."
Meanwhile, Cllr Francis Deane called on Meath County Council to install traffic calming ramps on L30409 Ratholdron Road adjacent to the Ferndale/Silverlawn entrances and at the Blackwater Abbey entrance. He was told the Council had fitted bollards, yellow boxes, and extra speed warning road markings in the last 12 months on Ratholdren Road. Additional speed bumps are not an option on this route., but speed cushions may be an option, but this would need a design review which would need to facilitate the bus type used on this route.
