The 'jam-packed' schedule of the Samhain Food Festival this weekend

The Samhain Festival of Food & Culture is returning to Kells this week for its fifth year.

The family-friendly four day event which celebrates the coming together of over 5,000 years of Irish food and culture, features a line-up that includes some of the biggest names in Irish food and culture.

Award-winning chefs, renowned food writers, best-selling cookery book authors, culinary experts, and thought leaders in sustainability and agriculture, will all convene in the heritage town alongside this year’s internationally-acclaimed guest speaker, Carlo Petrini - Founder of the international Slow Food movement.

The Samhain Festival's jam-packed programme of over 30 different experiences includes an unmissable long table seasonal Samhain supper, a new Boyne Valley Flavours food safari, kids cookery classes, farmers markets, wine and cheese tastings, literary pub crawls, cocktail making class, and farm walks and tours. The Boyne Valley Food Safari has been introduced to the festival this year with a delicious adventure awaiting you.

Passengers will board the bus at The Samhain Festival Hub in Kells and make their way to three Boyne Valley producers to see where they grow, rear and make their products.

Firstly you will meet cheesemaker Michael Finegan Boyne Valley Farmhouse Cheese and his adorable goats at Mullagha Farm where he makes his award winning Boyne Valley Blue Cheese. Next you will head over to cidermaker Mark Jenkinson and get a unique backstage pass into the world of traditional farmhouse cider-making at the home of the multi-award-winning Cockagee Irish Keeved Cider. Lastly you will stop off to meet miller James Tallon and learn all about the historic Martry Mill and how James still mills flour there.
