OBITUARY: Tony Brady, Kildalkey

There was great sadness following the death of Tony Brady, Cloneylogan, Kildalkey, on 17th July last, at the Mater Hospital, Dublin, following a short illness. He was aged 70.

Tony was born to Marie and Philip Brady, High Stree, Trim, but spent the majority of his youth in Cloneylogan, near Kildalkey, on his mother’s home farm. Together with his wife Anne who he married in 1983, he worked the farm and eventually moved there permanently in 1995 and would go work on it with his son, Philip.

Tony was a tillage farmer who had a great love of the land and machinery, with his machinery of choice being a John Deere and was gifted with his hands, for both repairing and modifying machinery.

He also had a great interest in politics, especially fighting for the rights of tillage farmers. Tony was best known for his work with Combines4Charity, a group he founded along with his son Philip and eight other like-minded friends, which raised over €750,000 for charities such as Gary Kelly Cancer Foundation, Barnardos, and the National Rehabilitation Centre. They set three world records and touched the lives of many people along the way. Separately he raised money to help many projects for the Nangoma villagers in Malawi.

He was also involved in lots of local causes, helping to raise money for the local schools, senior citizen groups and others.

He was known for his sense of humour and mischief and made many lifelong friends from his days in Robinstown Macra and the wider farming community.

Tony is survived by his wife, Anne; son, Philip; sister, Mary; niece, Emily; relatives and friends.

A funeral took place at St Dympna's Church, Kildalkey, followed by cremation at Dardistown.
