Ratoath withstand Gaels' second-half surge

Ratoath resisted a strong second-half comeback from Blackhall Gaels to book their placed in the SHC semi-final at Pairc Tailteann today.

After dominating the opening half Mickey Cole's Ratoath side led 3-11 to 0-2 at the interval with Gavin McGowan twice finding the net while the outstanding Podge O'Hanrahan also found the target.

Early in the second-half Liam Corbett as shown a red card and from then on Blackhall Gaels were the better side. They scored three goals themselves, two from Jonathan Meyler and one from Luke Jennings, but they never looked like they might overtake their opponents.

Ratoath ended up winning 3-19 to 3-9.

In the curtain-raiser Kilskyre/Moylagh put in a strong second-half display to defeat Drumree in the IHC quarter-final, 1-21 to 3-10. Tom Shine topscored for the winners with 1-11, seven frees.
