David Gough.

Great honour for Gough and the Slane club

The appointment of David Gough as referee for this year's All-Ireland final between Dublin and Kerry is another major honour for the well-known official - and for the Slane club.

Gough, who works as a teacher, is will be assisted by linesmen Martin McNally from Monaghan and James Molloy from Galway. Fergal Kelly from Longwood will be the sideline official.

His umpires on the day will be Dean Gough, Eugene Gough, Stephen Gough and Terry Gough, all members of his native Slane club.

It’s set to be the second Sam Maguire Cup decider that Gough has taken charge of, with his first being the 2019 decider between the same two counties which ended in a draw.

Other inter-county football finals which he has refereed include the 2015 All-Ireland minor final and the 2018 All-Ireland club final, the Munster final in 2016, the 2017 Connacht final and the Ulster final in 2018, 2021 and 2023.

Gough has also taken charge of intermediate and senior county finals in Meath as well as All-Ireland under-age showdowns.
