the happy couple and guests on their big day

Trim wedding is pure rock n’ roll

A JIVE dancing loving couple who tied the knot with a 1950s themed wedding say guests are still talking about the quirky day!

Rock and roll bride and groom, Kevin and Joanne Murray decided to turn back time by exchanging vows in a vintage ceremony at the Castle Arch Hotel in Trim.

The couple set the scene with the bride donning a full length 1950s tea dress with satin cap sleeves while the groom sported a royal blue box jacket with square pockets and matching peg leg trousers, a cream shirt and burgundy custom made tie.

Painter and decorator come dance instructor Kevin from Ardee who met his Athboy born bride to be at a show in the Ardboyne Hotel says there was only ever going to be one theme for the special day!

“I'm dancing rock n' roll since I was 12,” he said.

“I grew up with Elvis and Buddy Holly, my mother comes from a family of eleven and all of them were dancers.

“Myself and Joanne met at the Ardboyne in Navan at a dance so music is a big part of our story.”

Caring Kevin had everything down to fine detail even choosing the music for when he first saw his bride.

“I put some music on a duke box and Joanne walked down the aisle to a song called “Only For A Moment” so in other words my heart belongs to you not only for a moment,” he recalls.

“I'm an old romantic, there's not many of us left!”

Part of a Rockabilly music scene, delighted guests were treated to a dance troupe post nuptial.

“We follow a band called Reilly and the Moon Rockers so whenever they are playing a group of us all meet up,” explains Kevin.

“So we got the dancers to come in their 1950s gear and we got them to come out with us for our first dance that was to Rockabilly Rebel.

“Everybody is still talking about the fantastic dancing and the whole buzz of the day.”

Music also featured in Kevin's very romantic proposal to his new wife last year as he explains:

“When I proposed to Joanne, I had a song playing called welcome to my world by Elvis.

“I proposed to her last year on her birthday in loop head lighthouse in Clare. Joanne was born in America so one side of the lighthouse is by the Shannon Estuary and on the other is the Atlantic Ocean next stop America.”

The Ardee man says he loves to see the confidence in people when he teaches them how to dance.

“Dancing is my hobby, I'm a painter and decorator by trade.

“I used to do it myself and go to people's house to teach then when Joanne came on board she could teach the ladies the steps too.

“It's good for your mental health and it's good to keep fit.”
