Meath aiming to sustain momentum when they face the neighbours this weekend
All things considered Meath have made a textbook start to their All-Ireland Intermediate Camogie Championship campaign. The statistics bear that out.
An early indication they were on form, in the zone, could be seen in the way they defeated Laois in Trim by a whopping 6-19 to 2-3. They continued on their winning ways next time out by overcoming Kerry 3-15 to 0-11.
Now they will be looking to continue on their winning ways when they face Westmeath at Raharney on Saturday, 5pm.
While the victory over Laois was certainly noteworthy, the win over Kerry, although not as comprehensive, was more impressive. Twice Kerry had overcome the Royals in the league (including the Div 2A final) so to travel down to Causeway and return home with a 13-point victory was certainly an indication this Meath team is building up a real head of steam.
The wins over Laois and the Kingdom ensured Brendan Skehan's team will be in the knock-out phase making Saturday's clash something of a dead rubber - at least from the Royal County's perspective.
Westmeath go into the game on the back of a draw with Kerry (1-11 to 2-8) and a victory over Laois (2-17 to 1-10). The Lake County will want to defeat Meath and hope Laois can cause a shock over Kerry, although that's something that can be pretty much ruled out.
The introduction of a spate of youngsters this season has helped to give new impetus to the Meath cause. The Royals are carrying a formidable threat in attack now, a reality underlined in the way eight players got on the scoresheet against Kerry. Not surprisingly Aoife Minogue led the charge with 2-1. She's enjoying the kind of form that suggests she's a shoe-in for a Soaring Star award - again.
Grace Coleman, Emma O'Connell, Olivia O'Halloran, Tara Murphy, Tracy King are just some of the others who are having a fine season. Meath have won their opening two games convincingly. They will want to keep that momentum going and they should do just that.
