Two more youths arrested in connection with assault on Navan teenager

Two more youths have been arrested in connection with the assault on a Navan teenager last Monday.

The three 15 year old males arrested in connection with the attack this morning have been released and files are being prepared for the National Youth Diversion Office.

Two more male teenagers were arrested this afternoon for alleged offences under Section 3 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act, 1999.

They are currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at Garda Stations in the Meath Region

Gardai from Navan investigating the attack on the 14-year-old school student made the arrests.

The teenager attended Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda where he received treatment for serious facial injuries.

He suffered a number of broken teeth as well as bruising around his face and neck and a concussion.

An Garda Síochána has appointed an Family Liaison Officer and continue to liaise with the victim and the victim’s family.

The shocking attack, which happened on a green area, in a nearby housing estate was filmed and widely shared on social media and garda investigations are ongoing into the assault.

The horrifying incident, which is being classified by Gardai as a hate crime, has prompted widespread condemnation including from Taoiseach Leo Varadkar and was also raised in the Dáil.

Gardai are asking members of the public not to share the video, which went viral on social media after a video of the sickening attack was shared online

The victim of the attack was a second year student at Navan's Beaufort College and the school's patron body, LMETB has confirmed that the services of NEPS has been made available to the school.
