Upgrade works on playground and skate park begin

Dunboyne playground and skatepark closed this week for a period of 10-12 weeks to facilitate the eagerly anticipated upgrading works.

The works are being carried out by Garden Escapes and while the estimated closure is 10-12 weeks, it is hoped the works may be completed a little sooner depending on weather and Dunboyne Playspace Forum will keep the community updated on their Facebook page as works progress.

The car park will be closed for the duration of the works and the existing playground and skating facilities will be fenced off for health and safety reasons.

The pedestrian entrance at the Maynooth Road and the path down to the Castleview entrance will remain open and the green space in the park may still be used.

Cllr Maria Murphy, a member of Dunboyne Playspace Forum, said the committee is “super excited” that works are starting and that their final plan for the playground and skatepark has far exceeded anything they could have hoped for when they started out the process with a survey of the community.

Existing equipment will be retained with a small number of pieces needing adjustments and some surfaces will need to be repaired.

The playground includes a teenzone with outdoor table tennis, callisthenics bars and lots of seating as well as the skate park, which will also have seating. The railings will be removed and the ground will be graded to meet the new ramp.

"Our original dream for the playground was big but what we are getting is far bigger," said Cllr Murphy.

The playground and skatepark has been made possible with an investment of €285,000 from Meta, funding of €100,000 under the Town and Village Renewal Scheme and a contribution of €21,000 from Meath County Council.
