More social housing in pipeline for Connaught Grove in Athboy

Forty seven new social homes are to be built in Connaught Grove, Athboy. The Minister for Housing, Darragh O’Brien has announced approval in principle for 47 new build social homes.

This will be phase two of the Connaught Grove development following the opening of 32 new homes during phase one in 2018.

“It is very welcome that Minister O’Brien has approved the building of these new social homes for Athboy which will build-out of the rest of council owned land at this site,” said Senator Shane Cassells.

“This land at Connaught Grove has been in the ownership of the local authority for many years and it is welcome that it is being put to use for much needed social housing," he added.

“This development will consist of one-, two- and three-bedroom houses so it will accommodate local families, single applicants, and older people."

Cllr Mike Bray welcomed the announcement by the Minister stating: “Phase one of this housing development at Connaught Grove was a great success and provided homes to 32 families in the Athboy area.

“In the coming weeks we will see the age-friendly housing development at the old convent grounds on the Kildalkey road in Athboy begin construction which will see 28 new houses for the local area.

“This age-friendly housing along with the Connaught Grove development will benefit many locals on the housing list and give them a home of their own in a great local community. I will be pressing the council to consider housing for people with disabilities be included as part of this project as it can be a challenge for people with disabilities to get suitable housing to assist with their needs,” concluded Cllr Bray.
