‘I nearly keeled over when I got the cheque and saw the numbers’

The winner of the €3.9m Lotto jackpot who bought his ticket in Duleek visited Lotto headquarters last Thursday to claim his prize.

The player, who is the sole winner of the ticket and wishes to remain anonymous, said he was still in a state of shock over the win.

“I’ve had over a week to process the win and still can’t wrap my head around it! I kept double checking and triple checking the ticket all week to make sure I hadn’t made a mistake, but today, the ticket was confirmed, and I nearly keeled over when I received my cheque and saw all the numbers. It's the most surreal feeling ever”, he said.

The local man from Meath purchased his winning quick pick ticket on the day of the draw (18th March), in Bowe’s EuroSpar in the centre of Duleek village.

“I’m determined to share this prize with my nearest and dearest to spread some joy. I've already given some of my friends some money to help change their lives a little and I’m in the process of dividing the remainder of the prize out amongst my family. I can’t wait to hop on a plane and take a nice long holiday in the sun over the next couple of months to really let the win really sink in!” he added.

Duleek has been deemed the “luckiest place in Ireland” after its second Lotto win in just six months. Last October, Lowthe's Londis sold an €8.9, winning ticket which was on by a family syndicate. But the luck of Duleek doesn't end there.

In February 2019, a monster €175m EuroMillions jackpot was won by a family syndicate living in the Duleek and Bellewstown area and still holds the record as the biggest jackpot ever won by an Irish ticket holder.
