GAVAN REILLY: Why Late Late move for Claire can work and what Tubs will do next

Good week: Claire Byrne

Anyone who tells you the Late Late Show isn’t going her way is naïve. When Byrne gave up her Monday night TV slot it was because of the challenge of being in early for radio on Monday and Tuesday, yet working late into a Monday night. A Friday night is a far lesser ask. Moreover, Claire Byrne Live had moved into magazine-style content for a few years so the gear chance to the Late Late would not be as dramatic as some make out. The bigger question is what Tubridy will do next. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if he’s eyeing up a stint in the Áras…

Bad week: the Greens (yes, again)

It was a good thing that Eamon Ryan had to leave his mobile phone behind before making the trip to China for St Patrick’s Day - leaving it in Paris over fears that his hosts might mount some surveillance on his handset. Being incommunicado meant he couldn’t see a tweet posted by his party’s new communications head – a man who is only in the job three weeks – where a TV panel was rubbished for having ‘not a single sensible TD’. That panel included Neasa Hourigan, as well as coalition colleague Paul McAuliffe of FF. Hardly an ideal start.
