Celebrations in EuroSpar in Duleek today after it was revealed that it was the winning location of last Saturday’s €3,987,540 jackpot win

Duleek "luckiest village in Ireland" after second major lotto win in months

Duleek has been deemed the "luckiest place in Ireland" after the National Lottery announced that the village was the winning location of last Saturday’s €3,987,540 jackpot win, its second major win in less than six months.

Bowe’s EuroSpar in the centre of Duleek village sold the all-important winning Quick Pick ticket on the day of the draw and the National Lottery has confirmed that the winning ticket holder has made contact and arrangements are now being made for the prize to be collected.

Residents of Duleek village are no strangers to recent Lotto success following another €8.9 million jackpot win in October last year.

But the luck of Duleek doesn't end there, In February 2019, a monster €175m EuroMillions jackpot was won by a family syndicate living in the Duleek and Bellewstown area and still holds the record as the biggest jackpot ever won by an Irish ticket holder.

Store owner, Shane Bowe who is officially celebrating 12 months in business at the EuroSpar store in Duleek was overjoyed at the news of Duleek’s latest Lotto jackpot win.

“It is an incredible story. In such a short space of time, two Lotto jackpots have been won in such a small, one-street village such as Duleek. I am thrilled for the local community and my customers who have been incredibly supportive to me in my first year as owner of the store. When the previous Lotto jackpot was won down the street from us late last year, we may have been a little covetous of the celebrations and the big fuss that was made, but here we are six months later, and we’ll be the ones popping the champagne to toast one of our customers becoming a multi-millionaire! It’s great for this amazing village and we send our best wishes to our lucky customer, whoever it may be!”

The latest Meath winner becomes the 4th Lotto jackpot winner and 11th National Lottery millionaire of 2023.

Last year a family syndicate who purchased their ticket in Lowthe's Londis in Duleek collected their Lotto Jackpot prize worth an astonishing €8.9 Million which they won on Wednesday, 5th of October.

Seamus Lowthe owner of Londis, said Duleek is "the luckiest village in Ireland."

"It's great for the village and it proves that we are one of the luckiest places you can do the Lotto so keep on doing it!

"It was my turn the last time, it was his turn this time so that must mean it's my turn again the next time! We are going for four wins this year, we are only at two so we have another two to go.

"There is a buzz up the street at Eurospar today so more power to them. It's all good for Duleek, we'll take as many millions into the village as we can get! Best of luck to whoever won it, I hope they enjoy it."

Neighbouring business Haven Pharmacy says the village is "buzzing with excitement today.

"We are delighted for whoever won but just disappointed it wasn't us!" said pharmacist Carmen McKeown.

"Hopefully it's someone local."

"We've had three big wins in the area in the last few years and one just there late last year in Londis so we are very lucky here in Duleek.

"It's a great morale boost for the village. We were in the shop earlier and you'd think the staff there won it themselves they were so excited!"

Catherine Hughes owner of Beo Coffee in the village said:

"I'm absolutely delighted that we've had another winner in the Village. The Lotto has been very good to our lovely village. I wish them all the happiness in in world with their winnings. Hopefully it's a consortium of a few people. Unfortunately it wasn't me, I guess I'll have to play it to win it!"

Local Fianna Fail Cllr Stephen McKee also offered his well wishes to the lucky punter.

"It's another huge win for Duleek, unfortunately it's not me, but massive congratulations to the winner. It's great news for the village. I hope the winner can fully enjoy their winnings with family and friends."
