Call for better services as Youth Work celebrates first anniversary in Navan

Youth Work Ireland, Meath’s Navan West youth service celebrated its first birthday in Claremont Stadium when young people and their families gathered to celebrate the work they have done over the past 12 months of the service, showcased by videos and photos.

Funded by the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth through the UBU Your Place, Your Space programme, supported by Louth Meath ETB, this new youth service has worked with over 130 young people in the past twelve months from the Windtown and Claremont areas of Navan.

Young people from age 10-24 have worked on projects and programmes such as employability skills, personal development, first aid, mindfulness, self defence, healthy eating and more.

Mayor of Navan, Cllr Eddie Fennessy said: “Navan West is a large urban area. It is home to a diversity of communities and districts of varying socio-economic backgrounds. What I like most about the ethos of Youth Work Ireland Meath is that they view the world through the prism of community enhancement. It is challenging work but something each one of you should be very, very proud of.”

Youth Work Ireland Meath’s Regional Director, Geraldine Hogarty added: “This event highlights the amazing work being done with the young people and their families in the Navan West area. We now need to focus on securing proper youth facilities in the town so we can support the social development of our young people”.
