Headford Place/Kenlis Place junction in Kells upgraded

Busy Kells junction works completed

The newly realigned junction and public realm works at Headford Place/Kenlis Place in Kells have been completed.

The work included realigning the junction to improve pedestrian safety and the provision of a new pedestrian crossing.

It also included a universal access ramp to the Credit Union, the upgrading of the Parnell Garden and the enhancement of the public space around the statue of Our Lady with landscaping and seating. In addition, the Council have sourced a heritage style Post Box which will be installed shortly.

Cllr Sean Drew said the project delivered improved pedestrian safety. "I am personally pleased that the project has been completed in line with the plans and commitments made by the council despite certain scaremongering to the contrary."

He said a new pedestrian crossing will be installed over the coming months in Suffolk St/Bective Square, to improve access and safety for pedestrians.

"The crossing at the bottom of Suffolk Street will be located from Centra across to the Scullery No 4 Cafe. "I am continuing to work with Council officials to have additional pedestrian crossings installed at various locations in Kells town.”

Cllr Drew pointed out that there are a lot of upgrade works and improvements taking place and scheduled over the coming months in Kells town.

"I want to acknowledge everyone involved in delivering on these projects, in particular the local council engineer and his team.

"The resurfacing of housing estate roads is ongoing with some excellent work having been carried out by the contractor in Gardenrath Close, Rockfield Rd, Beechlawn, Sycamore Avenue, Kenlis Crescent and Headfort Park. Work will be undertaken shortly in O‘Growney Terrace and Fr McCullen Park.

"It is great to see this work being carried out, as some of these estates were waiting decades for an upgrading of the road surface.

"I have requested that St Brigid’s Terrace, Ard Na Greine and Blackwater Heights are included in the list of additional housing estate roads to be resurfaced later in the year under the 2023 works programme."

Cllr Drew said that a footpath extension on the Gardenrath Road will soon be installed. "Following requests from local residents and business owners, I have obtained approval from Meath County Council for the footpath to be extended from Bective Place housing estate, in front of the filling station and out past the houses towards the motorway flyover bridge."
