10-week road diversion In place at new Navan park and ride facility
The road along by Our Lady's Hospital Navan linking Brews Hill and the Moathill will be one way only for the next ten weeks, as work on the Park and Ride facility access continues.
The road will be closed to traffic from Brews Hill to Moathill, where the new Park and Ride facility is almost complete, but traffic travelling towards Brews Hill will be able to use the road.
At a meeting of Navan Municipal Council last week, Director of Services, Martin Murray, said the council had received additional funding to enable them to bring the project around onto the hospital road.
"We have got additional funding from the NTA to bring the Park and Ride Scheme back round by the hospital road.
"This means a road closure for the next ten weeks, We have fully consulted with the fire service, the ambulance service and St Patrick's Classical School in regards to the impact it will have.
"We will be bringing the scheme round to the front of Beaufort where there will be site junction realignment."
Cllr Padraig Fitzsimons asked if the work on the Park and Ride facility would be finished before this additional works start and he was told it would.
During the lane closure, access to the hospital, the school, Moathill Manor and Beaufort House will be maintained in either direction, but all traffic leaving those facilities will be directed eastwards towards the junction with Brews Hill.
Cllr Eddie Fennessy said diversions caused by the road closure will generate traffic disruption over the coming weeks. "I ask motorists to be vigilant and if at all possible, to use alternative access routes into Navan.
"The local town bus service has also been impacted by the project. Bus stops at the Hospital and at Clogherboy have been suspended for the duration of the works. They've been replaced by temporary stops at Páirc Tailteann to serve the Hospital and at Claremont Estate to cover the Clogherboy area.
"The council assure me this project will be delivered on time. They are determined to minimise disruption and return the road to two way traffic as soon as they can," he said.
