Prince Harry’s memoir sells out in stores across the Royal county

Royal rebel’s book has been flying off the shelves

Prince Harry’s memoir, ‘Spare’, has broken records in bestselling non-fiction, even topping the likes of Barack and Michelle Obama’s own tomes.

Having sold over 10,000 copies in Ireland on its first day of publication, the inner workings of the prince’s life seem to be a subject of fascination and critique among the populace, and that includes the locals of our own Royal county.

“I had to put in another order for Monday because they’re so popular,” said Antonia Daly, owner of Antonia’s Bookstore in Trim, with the store seeing its shelves cleared of all their copies within the first week.

Bookstation in Navan were also hit with the demand for Prince Harry and his Royal Family revelations. “We were completely sold out,” Anna said. “They flew off the shelves. I think a lot of people feel for him and of course they want to know what goes on behind closed doors.”

Since news of Meghan and Harry’s relationship made the headlines back in 2016, the couple has rarely been off the front pages.

With the controversies around their engagement as well as the controversies around the publication of his memoir, it’s no surprise that the book sold 1.4 million copies including pre-orders worldwide on its first day of publishing.

From his frost-bitten penis to physical altercations with his brother, Prince William, Harry leaves no details to spare. And yet the Duke of Sussex apparently had a lot more to say. “The first draft was different,” he told The Telegraph. “It was 800 pages, and now it’s down to 400 pages.” According to him, details of his brother as well as his father, King Charles regarding his relationships with them were left out. However, in spite of these final edit cuts, readers of his memoir still receive great insights into the Royal Family through the prince’s perspective, from his claims that he was called a “spare” since birth, to being physically attacked over his relationship with actress Meghan Markle.

With the demand for Spare and its glimpse into the dealings among the Royal Family, it seems bookstores all around Meath are prospering in sales generated by the amount of public interest regarding Harry and Meghan.
