Trim shocked by death of popular local woman in river tragedy
Funeral arrangements have been made for Trim woman Phil McArdle (nee Greville) who died after falling into the River Boyne on Friday.
A funeral Mass will take place in St Patrick's Church, Trim, on Wednesday morning at 11am followed by cremation at Mount Jerome Crematorium.
Phil, of Lackanash Cottage, Trim, was a volunteer with the local Meals on Wheels group and delivered dinners to the elderly two days a week.
She was also involved with the local Scurlogstown Olympiad Group. Writing on the Trim Haymaking Festival Facebook page, the group paid tribute to her .
"Phil McArdle was there at every turn, the High Nellie's, Martina's Kitchen & the Village Scene... always a smile on her face and making the cuppa in the kitchen. We are at utter loss for words on her sudden passing. Rest in Peace Phil."
Local councillor Noel French said: "It's very sad news. Phil was a lovely person and contributed to our community in Trim."
Cllr Aisling Dempsey said:" It is a shocking tragedy for her and her family and our thoughts are with them."
Gardai are treating her death as a tragic accident and are appealing for any witnesses or anyone who saw her walking on Friday to contact Trim Garda Station.
It is understood the river was very swollen and fast flowing at the time.
Phil is survived by her husband Jim, sisters Geraldine, and Mary (Catherine), brothers Mick and Pat, sisters in law, brothers in law, nieces, nephews, extended family and her many friends.
