Traffic calming measures for housing estates will ensure children's safety - Harding

Meath is a step closer to making children and all pedestrians safer in their estates, that's according to Fianna Fail Cllr Wayne Harding who has welcomed commitment from Meath County Council to look at a phased implementation of traffic calming and safety measures within the county's housing estates.

"I have had calls from housing estates in Ledwidge Hall Slane, The Grange Donore and St Cianans Villas in Duleek and I know there are many more," he said.

"What I proposed at our transport committee is that we look at implementing safety measures in a similar way to how we improved safety outside our schools.

"By picking three or four estates per municipal district and have a uniform agreed approach to each estate. My aim is that there is an implementation procedure available to residents associations to apply to, that it is easy to put in place and that it works."

"Ultimately the target is to make children and all pedestrians safer in their estates. There is always debate around what is best? Ramps, chicanes, rumble strips and so on. I welcome the commitment to come back to us with detailed proposals."
