More traffic woes for Navan drivers as town diversions resume to facilitate works
DIVERSIONS New bus interchange and pedestrian plaza area on Kennedy Road under construction as part of Navan 2030 scheme
FURTHER temporary traffic management measures will be introduced on Kennedy Road on 9th January to facilitate continuing Navan 2030 refurbishments in the area.
Works are continuing at Kennedy Place to construct part of the new bus interchange on Kennedy Road and to create the adjacent pedestrian plaza area.
Works are to commence on Kennedy Road in January, including services installation works, granite kerbing and paving works.
The works currently underway includes construction of new reinforced concrete walls, tree ‘pits’, flower beds, a new base for the location of the relocated art sculpture, and granite kerbing to the loading bay adjacent to Paddy O’Brien Street junction.
In a letter to local businesses, Meath County Council said in order to facilitate the completion of these works, it will be necessary to implement temporary traffic management measures on Kennedy Road. They will come into effect on Monday the 9th of January and are anticipated to be required until Monday the 23rd of February 2023.
The traffic management measures include restricting traffic direction on Kennedy Road to one-way from the entrance to the Kennedy Place car park to the Trimgate Street junction (i.e. maintaining a traffic lane southbound towards Trimgate Street).
Traffic exiting from Paddy O’Brien Street and Metges laneway onto Kennedy Road will be restricted, for the duration, from turning right. Traffic on Trimgate Street will also be restricted from turning left onto Kennedy Road. Access for deliveries and collections will be maintained throughout.
Works will also recommence at the Market Square/Trimgate Street junction adjacent to the AIB bank. This will include, amongst other items, the installation of new granite kerbing, granite paving and tactile paving for the new pedestrian crossings. The paving upgrade works will then to continue past the old bus stop, and onwards to the existing zebra crossing at Market Square.
Paving works to the plaza are to continue and ducting for services will be installed in the car park area.
The Council expressed its appreciation to the public and local businesses for their ongoing forbearance and cooperation during the upgrade works.
